Muhammadi Mosque

The Muhammadi Mosque anchors the Mechouar district with its massive, rectangular minaret rising sharply above the low-slung administrative buildings nearby. Commissioned by King Mohammed the fifth in the mid-twentieth century, the mosque serves as a centerpiece for the surrounding royal neighborhood. Its design blends traditional Moroccan tilework with modern concrete construction. During its inauguration, the king personally led the inaugural prayers, establishing the site as a focal point for the religious and social life of the people living in this quarter.
