Mahkama of Pacha

The Mahkama of Pacha features sixty rooms organized around airy, tiled courtyards, distinguished by its intricate cedar wood ceilings and carved stucco walls. Completed in nineteen forty-one, this building served as both the Pacha’s courthouse and his official reception hall. While it looks like a historic palace, it was constructed during the French Protectorate using traditional Moroccan techniques to house local administration. One official, Pacha Thami El Glaoui, held court here, deciding local disputes amidst these elaborate, handcrafted surroundings.
