Beihuo Lane

The gray brick archway marking the entrance to Beihuo Lane sits tucked between the low, residential buildings of the Beilin District. This narrow passage once served as the primary route for the charcoal sellers supplying the city’s hearths during the Ming dynasty. While the heavy wooden carts loaded with fuel have long since vanished, the lane retains its original, tight corridor layout. A stone tablet near the base of the gate records the official renaming of the path during the nineteen fifties.
