The Wanshou Baxian Gong features a distinctive, multi-tiered roofline of glazed yellow tiles that rises above the surrounding neighborhood walls. This Taoist temple complex, often called the Eight Immortals Palace, grew from a small site into the largest and most influential Taoist center in the city. During the Boxer Rebellion in nineteen hundred, Empress Dowager Cixi and the Guangxu Emperor fled Beijing and took refuge here. They donated a massive sum of money for renovations, cementing the temple's enduring local status.
