Wenshufang features rows of dark timber buildings with sweeping, upturned eaves and intricate lattice windows that mimic the architecture of the Qing dynasty. This district serves as a hub for Sichuanese intangible cultural heritage, where craftsmen practice traditional paper cutting, embroidery, and shadow puppetry in open workshops. In two thousand and six, the city moved to preserve these historic architectural styles by reconstructing the area, often incorporating salvaged beams and stones from older Chengdu residences to maintain a sense of authentic material history.
