Taylor's Port

The Taylor Port lodge sits on a hillside of Vila Nova de Gaia with a white facade that glows against the deep green vines covering the surrounding walls. Inside these thick stone cellars, rows of wooden barrels hold port wine maturing in the cool, dark air. In eighteen thirty-eight, Joseph Taylor became the sole owner and gave the house his name. He navigated the turbulent years of the Portuguese Civil War by keeping his stock hidden while other merchants struggled to survive the shifting politics.
