Puerta de Elvira

The Puerta de Elvira stands as a massive stone archway, distinguished by its horseshoe profile and the crenelated top that once anchored the northern defensive wall of Granada. It served as the city’s primary entrance during the Nasrid dynasty, acting as a portal for travelers arriving from the direction of Jaen. In fourteen ninety-two, the keys to the city were delivered to the Catholic Monarchs near this gate, marking the final shift in control from Muslim to Christian rule in Spain.
