La Alcaicería

The Alcaicería is a narrow, labyrinthine corridor of stalls marked by its colorful, Moorish-style arches and intricate plasterwork. Once the great silk market of the Nasrid kingdom, it functioned under the strict oversight of the sultan, who granted this area the exclusive right to trade in luxury fabrics. In eighteen forty-three, a massive fire consumed the original medieval structure, leaving only the memory of its ancient trade. The current stalls mimic that vanished world, recreating the tight, bustling atmosphere of the past.
