The Plaza de Santo Domingo centers on a large, stone fountain topped by a statue of Fray Luis de Granada. Behind it, the church of Santo Domingo dominates the space with its austere, sixteenth century facade. During the final siege of Granada in fourteen ninety-two, Queen Isabella waited in the nearby convent while her forces concluded the war. The plaza served as a primary gathering point for the religious order that managed the surrounding buildings and influenced the daily life of the neighborhood.
