The narrow, four-story building on the corner of the Puerta del Sol features a distinct, curved facade that hugs the intersection. Known as Casa de Diego, it has operated as a specialty shop for fans, umbrellas, and walking sticks since eighteen fifty-eight. Wenceslao de Diego founded the business, and five generations of his family have kept the original wooden storefront and painted signage intact. The shop remains a holdout against the large retail chains that now dominate the surrounding square.
