Rosemary Branch Theatre

The Rosemary Branch Theatre, affectionately known by locals as The Rosie, stands on a site with records dating back to 1594 when it appeared on an archery map as a marked target. By the mid-nineteenth century, it had transformed into a vibrant Victorian music hall that famously featured balloon ascents, tightrope walking, and pony races in its expansive tea gardens. Legend suggests that icons of the stage, including Marie Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin, performed here during their early careers. The building later fell into disrepair and even served as a squat in the early nineteen-nineties before being rescued and restored by a team dedicated to reviving its legacy as a performance venue.
