London Eye

The London Eye began as a rejected competition entry in 1993. Architects David Marks and Julia Barfield proposed the observation wheel to mark the new millennium, but the contest organizers never declared a winner. Instead of abandoning their vision, the pair founded their own company and independently secured the site and funding to bring the structure to life. Their persistence transformed a discarded design concept into one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.
