National Covid Memorial Wall

The National Covid Memorial Wall stretches for five hundred meters along the south bank of the River Thames. It began in March 2021 when the campaign group Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice, assisted by the activist group Led by Donkeys, mobilized over a thousand volunteers to hand-paint thousands of red hearts onto the Albert Embankment. Each heart represents a person in the United Kingdom who died with Covid-19 listed on their death certificate. The location was chosen specifically to face the Houses of Parliament across the river, serving as a direct and somber visual reminder to politicians of the lives lost during the pandemic.
