Woodlawn Memorial Park (Colma, California)

historic

Woodlawn Memorial Park is defined by the massive, bronze-clad mausoleum that anchors its center. While most of Colma serves as a final resting place for people displaced by San Francisco’s rapid expansion in the early twentieth century, Woodlawn grew around a specific ambition to provide permanent, elaborate entombment. In nineteen twenty-five, the cemetery owners built the grand mausoleum to offer a sense of architectural permanence that earth burial could not guarantee. It remains a quiet, expansive landmark where the city's past gathers in silence.
