Calvary Presbyterian Church

religious

You are standing before Calvary Presbyterian Church, a building that carries the literal foundation of a previous era. When the congregation decided to leave their downtown location at Union Square at the turn of the twentieth century, they did not simply abandon their old home. Instead, workers painstakingly deconstructed the former building, salvaging over a million bricks along with the pews and interior woodwork. These materials were transported to this site in Pacific Heights and reassembled to create this new sanctuary, which opened its doors on Thanksgiving Day in 1902.
