Assassinations of George Moscone and Harvey Milk

On the morning of November 27, 1978, Dan White, a former city supervisor, bypassed the security screenings at San Francisco City Hall by climbing through a basement window. He carried a snub-nosed revolver and had previously resigned from his position, only to immediately regret the decision and demand that Mayor George Moscone reappoint him. When he learned that the mayor intended to deny that request, he arrived at the building with the specific intent to kill the mayor and several other city officials he held responsible for his political downfall. He first entered the office of Mayor Moscone, where he committed the initial shooting.
