The Painted Ladies

You are looking at one of the most recognizable rows of houses in the world. These seven Queen Anne style homes were built between 1892 and 1896 by a developer named Matthew Kavanaugh. He built them as a speculative project and lived in the largest one, located right at the end of the row, to oversee the construction of his neighbors. They stand on Steiner Street, directly across from the gentle slope of Alamo Square Park. Continue
