Golden Gate Theatre

The Golden Gate Theatre opened in March 1922 with the explicit goal of making its audience feel as though they were sitting under the open sky. Architect G. Albert Lansburgh designed the auditorium to mimic an outdoor space, intentionally breaking away from the enclosed, roofed-in sensation common in the theaters of that era. When it debuted, the program featured seven continuous vaudeville acts that kept crowds entertained from morning until night.
