Clayton's Anchor is a private memorial plaque and anchor installation located within the San Francisco Marina, serving as a commemorative tribute to Joel Henry Clayton. While many visitors to the Marina District focus on the nearby Palace of Fine Arts or the expansive views of the bay, this specific marker honors a man who arrived in California during the gold rush era of eighteen-fifty. After working as a miner and a dairy farmer, Clayton eventually moved to the East Bay to lay out the town of Clayton in eighteen-fifty-seven.
