Harlem Courthouse

The Harlem Courthouse stands at the corner of East 121st Street and Sylvan Place as a vivid example of Romanesque Revival architecture. Completed in 1893, the four-story building is constructed of red brick with a granite base, accented by bluestone and terra cotta trim. The structure is immediately recognizable by its five-story corner tower, which is topped by eight small gables and a two-faced clock. Inside, a marble and iron spiral staircase winds from the lobby to the top of the tower, providing a dramatic vertical path through the heart of the building.
