Bluestockings (bookstore)

Bluestockings takes its name from an informal eighteenth-century society of English women intellectuals. Over time, that title shifted from a description of a scholarly woman into a derogatory label, but this bookstore reclaimed the term as a badge of honor. When it first opened in nineteen ninety-nine, it served specifically as a feminist bookstore, but it soon evolved into a much broader activist hub. It functions as a space for people to gather, organize, and find community outside of the commercial pressures of the rest of the city.
