The Old Grapevine was a storied tavern that once occupied the southeast corner of Sixth Avenue and 11th Street. Originally built in the eighteenth century as a private residence, it later became a roadhouse known as The Hawthorne. It eventually earned its iconic name from the massive, sprawling grapevine that climbed the entire length of its Eleventh Street wall.
