Kobra mural Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol

This vibrant mural was created by the Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra in late two thousand fourteen. It depicts the legendary artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol posed as boxers, wearing Everlast shorts and gloves. The work is a direct tribute to a famous nineteen eighty-five black-and-white photograph by Michael Halsband, which was originally commissioned to promote an unprecedented dual exhibition featuring both artists in Soho. Kobra transformed that iconic image by applying his signature style of geometric, kaleidoscope-like patterns and intense colors to their faces and the surrounding background. He included the forceful declaration, Fight for Street Art, on the side of the piece as a challenge to the establishment and a nod to the gritty, rebellious roots of New York City graffiti culture.
