The Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building

The Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower, now known as One Hanson Place, looms over the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues as a definitive icon of the Brooklyn skyline. Its architects, Halsey, McCormack and Helmer, constructed this neo-Romanesque and Art Deco landmark between nineteen twenty-seven and nineteen twenty-nine. They intended the tower to function as a cathedral dedicated to the concepts of thrift and financial prosperity. Its massive silhouette remains one of the most recognizable structures in the borough, anchoring the Fort Greene neighborhood with its historical presence.
