Rudolfinum

The Rudolfinum features a roofline lined with dozens of stone statues of famous composers and artists. This Neo-Renaissance building opened in eighteen eighty-five as a multipurpose center for the arts, commissioned by a savings bank to celebrate its silver anniversary. In nineteen eighteen, the newly formed Czechoslovak government chose this concert hall for its parliament, turning the music room into a debating chamber. Politicians walked past musicians for years until the building finally returned to its original purpose as the home of the Czech Philharmonic.
