The Estates Theatre features a neoclassical exterior painted in a pale, creamy yellow that distinguishes it from the surrounding medieval stone buildings. This is the only theater left in the world where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart once stood to conduct his own work. In seventeen eighty-seven, he premiered Don Giovanni here, choosing Prague over Vienna because the local audiences understood his music better. The house lights still dim in this room exactly as they did when the composer bowed to his first Prague crowd.
