The Black Square

The Black Square features a massive, undulating black asphalt mound that swells into a smooth, curved ramp in the middle of the plaza. Part of the Superkilen urban park, this space opened in twenty twelve to bring together residents from over sixty different nationalities living in the Nørrebro neighborhood. Architects integrated objects from the home countries of these residents, including manhole covers from Zanzibar, neon signs from Qatar, and benches from Brazil, scattering them across the dark, painted ground.
