The Square de la Place Pasdeloup centers on a circular garden framed by the grand facade of the Cirque d'Hiver. Jules Pasdeloup, a conductor who wanted to bring classical music to the working class, turned this former circus ring into a concert hall in eighteen sixty-one. Before it hosted orchestras, the arena saw equestrian acts and acrobats performing for crowds under its high, vaulted ceiling. Today, the quiet green space offers a spot to watch the traffic swirl around the building's distinct, sixteen-sided shape.
