Les Arts décoratifs

The long west wing of the Louvre, known as the Pavillon de Marsan, houses the Musee des Arts Decoratifs. Its facade is a dense collection of stone carvings and elaborate pediments that stretch toward the Tuileries Garden. In nineteen oh five, the Union Centrale des Arts Decoratifs moved its collection here to preserve objects of daily life alongside fine art. When the doors opened, curators displayed everything from medieval tapestries to modern furniture, insisting that a well-crafted chair deserved as much study as a painting.
