Drouant

landmark

A wide, dark green awning shades the sidewalk entrance to Drouant, a restaurant marked by its curved, art deco glass facade on the corner of Rue Gaillon. Since nineteen fourteen, this dining room has hosted the Goncourt Academy for their annual lunch. They meet here every autumn to vote for the most significant piece of French literature of the year. The winning author receives a check for only ten euros, but the prize brings instant fame and guaranteed sales for their book.
