Le Chabanais

The facade at twelve Rue Chabanais holds a heavy, carved wooden door that once marked the entrance to the most famous brothel in Paris. Inside this building, Madame Kelly ran an establishment designed to cater to the city's elite, featuring themed rooms like the Japanese Salon and the Moorish Room. King Edward the Seventh kept a custom-made chair here, designed specifically to facilitate his romantic encounters. The house operated openly until nineteen forty-six, when French law finally forced every such establishment to close.
