The garden of Peace (or Japanese Garden) of UNESCO

The Garden of Peace at the UNESCO headquarters remains a landmark in landscape architecture because it was the first of its kind created by a sculptor rather than a professional gardener. Isamu Noguchi, a Japanese-American artist, designed the space in the late nineteen fifties to challenge the traditional boundaries between sculpture and the environment. By approaching the terrain as a three-dimensional form, he departed from the conventional practice of landscape gardening. His vision turned a simple terrace into an intentional, immersive work of art meant to be experienced by walking through it.
