Palais de Chaillot

The Palais de Chaillot was constructed for the nineteen thirty-seven International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in Modern Life. Its two curved, symmetrical wings were built to replace an earlier, unpopular palace that featured Moorish and neo-Byzantine architecture. Architects Louis-Hippolyte Boileau, Jacques Carlu, and Léon Azéma designed these new structures in a streamlined, neoclassical style known as moderne. They intentionally created a vast, open esplanade between the wings to provide an unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower across the Seine.
