Pont d'Iéna

The Pont d’Iéna began as a calculated move by Napoleon Bonaparte to anchor his military legacy in the Parisian landscape. In eighteen hundred and seven, the Emperor issued a decree ordering its construction to commemorate his decisive victory over Prussian forces at the Battle of Jena the previous year. He intended for the bridge to serve as a permanent, stone-carved reminder of French tactical superiority, linking the École Militaire on the Left Bank to the expanding city on the Right.
