Trocadéro Palace

historic

The name Trocadero honors a specific military victory from eighteen twenty-three. During the French intervention in Spain, French forces captured the fortified Isla del Trocadero near Cadiz. The French king Charles the Tenth celebrated the success by ordering a parade that used the hill of Chaillot to reenact the assault on the Spanish fort. A papier-mache model of the fortress was constructed here for the spectacle, permanently linking this specific hill to the memory of that battle.
