Statue of Liberty

You are standing on the Île aux Cygnes, a slender, man-made island that stretches like a thin finger down the middle of the Seine. Dominating the western tip of this island is a bronze replica of the Statue of Liberty. While the original in New York Harbor stands as a colossal symbol of American immigration, this version was a gift from the American community in Paris. They presented it to the city in 1889 to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution, marking a reciprocal gesture of the friendship that birthed the giant icon across the Atlantic just three years earlier.
