Hôtel de Galliffet

The Hôtel de Galliffet features a tall, curved stone portal that separates the private courtyard from the street. Built in seventeen seventy-five, this townhouse served as the residence for the Marquis de Galliffet. During the French Revolution, the building housed the Ministry of External Relations. Talleyrand, the diplomat who defined French foreign policy for decades, worked from these rooms, famously hosting elaborate dinners to secure alliances while the city outside remained in turmoil. Today, the Italian Cultural Institute occupies the space.
