Passage Choiseul

Passage Choiseul stands as the longest covered arcade in Paris, stretching one hundred and ninety meters between the Rue des Petits-Champs and the Rue Saint-Augustin. Completed in eighteen twenty-seven, it was a speculative real estate venture by the Mallet Bank, built directly over the demolished remains of four private mansions. Its design was initially led by the architect François Mazois, but he died before the glass-roofed structure was finished, leaving Antoine Tavernier to oversee its completion. While many other passages in the city lean into ornate, museum-like aesthetics, this one was built with a pragmatic, commercial purpose in mind, serving as an artery of trade in the heart of the capital.
