École Estienne

The École Estienne stands as a landmark of French craftsmanship and graphic arts. It was established in eighteen eighty-nine following a proposal by the anthropologist and linguist Abel Hovelacque, who sought to create a specialized municipal school dedicated to the high standards of the printing industry. The institution takes its name from the Estienne family, a legendary dynasty of sixteenth-century printers and humanists whose work transformed the history of the book. Since its inception, the school has functioned as a training ground for the entire chain of graphic production, from traditional engraving and bookbinding to contemporary digital design and animation.
