Station F

The massive concrete structure you see before you is the Halle Freyssinet, a former railway freight depot built between 1927 and 1929. The building was designed by the French engineer Eugène Freyssinet, who is remembered for inventing the process of prestressed concrete. Because of his pioneering methods, the depot features exceptionally thin, elegant concrete vaults that were considered a radical structural breakthrough in the early twentieth century. It sat largely abandoned for years until it was identified as an architectural treasure and listed as a historical monument in 2012.
