Petite Ceinture du 13e arrondissement

The Petite Ceinture is a double track of rusted iron rails slicing through the thirteenth arrondissement, sunken below the modern street level. Built in the eighteen fifties, this railway once circled Paris to connect the city's main terminal stations. By the nineteen thirties, the rise of the Metro and the bus network made the line obsolete for passengers. Freight trains continued to rumble through these overgrown cuttings until the service ceased entirely in the early nineteen nineties, leaving the tracks to the weeds.
