The corner of rue Godefroy and boulevard de l'Hôpital features a plaque marking the former site of the Hôtel Neptune. Between nineteen twenty-two and nineteen twenty-four, Zhou Enlai lived in a small room on the top floor of this building while working at the nearby Renault factory. He arrived in France as a student but spent his days loading parts and his nights organizing Chinese laborers. The French secret police kept a file on him, noting his constant political meetings.
