Gobelins Manufactory

museum

The Gobelins Manufactory hides behind high, plain walls on the Avenue des Gobelins, marked by a massive iron gate bearing the royal crest of France. This factory has produced tapestries for French monarchs since sixteen sixty-two. When King Louis the Fourteenth moved his royal workshops here, he brought together weavers, painters, and dyers to create massive wall hangings for his palaces. Weavers still work on high-warp looms in these halls today, spending years to complete a single piece based on modern artist designs.
