Guignol de Paname

The theater known as Guignol de Paname features a distinctive wooden stage tucked within the Parc de Choisy. This small puppet theater carries on a tradition started in Lyon two centuries ago, where silk workers used the character of Guignol to vent their frustrations with the authorities. When the puppeteer Andre-Joseph Philipon moved his troupe to this corner of the thirteenth arrondissement, he kept the focus on biting social satire that often targeted the politicians of the day.
