The Great Mills of Paris

The building you are approaching was once the site of the most productive industrial mill in the world. Constructed between 1917 and 1921, these Grands Moulins de Paris were designed by architect Georges Wybo to combat severe food shortages in the aftermath of the First World War. At their peak, the massive facility could process nearly one thousand seven hundred tons of wheat every single day to supply the capital with bread. The company was managed by the Vilgrain family, whose leadership helped stabilize the national food chain during a period of significant social unrest.
