La Danse de la fontaine émergente

The La Danse de la fontaine émergente features a massive, serpentine structure of translucent green resin that appears to rise directly from the pavement. Designed by artist Chen Zhen, this installation serves as a public water fountain where water flows along the twisting, dragon-like form before disappearing back into the ground. Chen Zhen intended the work to represent a creature emerging from the earth, connecting the city’s underground water pipes to the open air. He died before the project was completed in two thousand eight.
