Les Jardins de La Coulée Verte

The Coulée Verte René-Dumont stretches above the street level as a continuous, narrow garden built directly onto the decaying bricks of the former Vincennes railway viaduct. Before the tracks became a park in the late nineteen eighties, steam trains hauled passengers from the Bastille station into the eastern suburbs for over a century. When the railway closed, landscape architect Jacques Vergely and sculptor Philippe Mathieux transformed the abandoned stone arches into an elevated promenade, lining the path with rosebushes, cherry trees, and wild grasses.
