Place de la Nation

The Place de la Nation features a massive bronze sculpture at its center, depicting a female figure representing the Republic, perched atop a chariot pulled by lions. Originally called the Place du Trône, the square earned its current name on July fourteenth, eighteen eighty. During the French Revolution, this site held one of the primary guillotines in Paris. Over thirteen hundred people were executed here in a period of just over a month, their bodies buried in a nearby convent garden.
