Cimetière de Charonne

The Cimetière de Charonne is defined by the modest, village-like stone wall that separates it from the church of Saint-Germain de Charonne. It is one of the last two remaining parish cemeteries in Paris that still sits directly against its church. André Malraux, the novelist and minister of culture, lies buried here under a plain stone slab. He chose this site because he wanted to rest in a corner of the city that retained the quiet, forgotten character of an old country village.
