Tombe d'Allan Kardec

The grave of Allan Kardec in Père Lachaise Cemetery is a stone dolmen modeled after a prehistoric burial site, topped by a bust of the man himself. Kardec, born Hippolyte Rivail, was a nineteenth-century educator who turned his attention to investigating spirits and reincarnation. His followers, who practice Spiritism, keep this site covered in flowers and messages. Visitors often place their hand on the back of his chair and make a wish, a ritual that has kept the stone smooth for decades.
